Q & A: Get to know Rob Jones!

‘… Client Relationship Manager, former UEFA Champions League extra and no friend of the delicatessen-hat.’

  1. How long have you been in the industry?

I have been in the industry for 11.5 years

  1. Can you tell us about your role in the company and what a typical day looks like for you?

I work in new business but maintain a small portfolio of clients whom I continue to support. Managing the day-to-day aspects of client work keeps me well-informed about industry developments and their practical implications for yachts. This insight proves invaluable when discussing new yacht structures with owners.

  1. What is your favourite way to unwind after a long day at work?

By taking my dog, Archie, out for a walk. I love to pop a podcast on and just switch off. My current favourites are Acquired, The Rewatchables and Football Clichés.

  1. What is an interesting fact about yourself?

When I lived in Manchester, I had a part time job working at Manchester United during Champions League games. As a huge fan of the club, it was a surreal experience, and I was even lucky enough to be in the changing room after the 2011 semi-final win. Let’s not talk about the result in the final!

  1. How did you end up at Quadrant Group?

I returned to the Isle of Man in 2012 after studying and then working in Manchester. I knew nothing about the industry and how big it was on the Island, but I managed to secure an interview with Quadrant and the rest, as they say, is history!

  1. What is it about working at Quadrant that you enjoy?

The “family feel” of the office is something I truly value. Many of the colleagues I started working with back in 2013 are still here today, which I believe speaks volumes about our team. I also greatly enjoy attending yacht shows and reconnecting with clients and contacts I collaborate closely with.

  1. What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

‘A problem is never as bad as you think it is.’

  1. On your dream dinner party guest list of 3, who would you bring? (Dead or alive, maximum of 3 people)

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Michael Mann – just so I could discuss ‘Heat’ with them for 3 hours

  1. Tell me about the first job you ever had?

I worked behind the delicatessen counter at a local supermarket. I still have nightmares about the hat I was forced to wear!

  1. Share a piece of advice to newcomers in the industry?

Ask questions – lots of questions! And don’t be afraid to get stuck in. The more knowledge you have, the better equipped you are to fulfil your role!

  1. You’re marooned on desert island with the company of just one song – what is it?

 Hotel California – The Eagles
