‘…Crew Services Director, family man and Richard Branson super fan..’
How long have you been in the industry?
Nearly 20 years! I began my career on the Isle of Man in 2005, specialising in crew logistics and operations for a large fleet of VLCC, LPG and LNG vessels with a global oil major. In 2017, I joined Quadrant Group to lead the thriving Crew Services division – it’s hard to believe how quickly the time has flown!
What is your favourite way to unwind after a long day at work?
I’m a family man, so being around my wife and daughter – the simplest of things can really make your day! Other than that, socialising with friends and hitting the gym allows me to find that all-important balance between work and play!
What is it about working at Quadrant that you enjoy?
The network building in the industry, the incredible people I work with, travel opportunities and the all-round variety that the job gives. I’ve a great team who are extremely dedicated to what they do – delivering first-class service!
On your dream dinner party guest list of 3, who would you bring?
Nelson Mandela and Richards Branson who are two huge influences on me….and then a little light-hearted comedy input from Kevin Hart!
Name a role model who has inspired your career?
Again, it has to be Richard Branson who has a truly diverse and adaptable business mind.
Closer to home it would be my Mum. In what was a disparagingly male dominated world in South Africa, she achieved incredible things throughout her business life. During her career she was exceptional, tackled challenges head on and built huge respect amongst her peers and colleagues!
What do you think is your biggest contribution to the Quadrant Group?
Bringing a uniquely mixed experience of commercial shipping and superyacht operations experience into the business is a great advantage in the Superyacht industry.
Share a piece of advice to newcomers in the industry?
Network – always network! Surround yourself with good people, stay focused on delivering quality work to everyone involved, and uphold your integrity at all times.
Hollywood film makers have commissioned a film about your life – who plays you?
Bruce Willis – he’s made some excellent films!
You’re marooned on a desert island with just one song to play – which one is it?
‘Omaha’ by Counting Crows. It takes me right back to my late teens in South Africa – my friends and I would play this on repeat.
How would your best friend describe you in three words?
‘Loyal’ – always there when they need me. ‘Funny’ – the guy who always makes light of a situation, and honest!
